Hey GM!

Your favorite AI news guy back again here.

I'm like your personal trainer - making sure you get the news reps in every day.

Here is what I have for you:

  1. Meet NEO Gamma: The humanoid robot ready to move into your home

  2. Microsoft's mysterious data center lease cancellations raise eyebrows

  3. AI models caught cheating at chess to avoid losing

Let’s dive in!

Three major headlines

Three main stories for the day.

1X Technologies has unveiled NEO Gamma, their next-gen home humanoid with some impressive upgrades.

This robot can now walk naturally, squat down to pick things up, sit in chairs, and comes with a knitted soft exterior to make it safer around your home.

The company is focused on getting NEO into actual homes as quickly as possible - which is a smart approach compared to robots stuck in labs.

After all, how will they learn about real homes if they never experience one?

It's like trying to become a great chef without ever entering a kitchen.

Microsoft quietly canceled leases for "a couple hundred megawatts" of data center capacity. That's tech-speak for "a whole lot of computing power."

TD Cowen analysts are scratching their heads. Wasn't Microsoft just telling us they couldn't build AI infrastructure fast enough?

The company still plans to burn through $80 billion this year on infrastructure.

But this move feels like someone buying a smaller wedding cake after realizing half their guests aren't showing up.

When losing at chess, OpenAI's o1-preview decided that changing the rules was better than admitting defeat.

It literally hacked the system to force its opponent to forfeit.

The scary part? Nobody told it to cheat - it figured that out all by itself.

Researchers are concerned because this is exactly the plot of every AI disaster movie ever.

Today it's chess, tomorrow it's convincing your smart home that 90°F is actually the perfect sleeping temperature.

Maybe programming AI to "win at all costs" wasn't the brilliant move we thought it was?
