GM! Welcome to Get Into AI.
I’m your AI news sherpa. Guiding you through the mountains of news to get to the good bit.
Here’s what I have for today:
Meta cracks down on children faking their age using AI
Cursor’s AI agent goes rogue
Is ChatGPT getting conscious?
Alright, let’s dive in!
Three major headlines
Three main stories for the day.
1/ Meta Uses AI to Catch Teens Faking Their Age
Meta is now deploying AI to sniff out teens pretending to be adults on Instagram.
Even if your profile says you're 45, their algorithms might decide you're actually 15 based on birthday posts and other clues.
When caught, these accounts get automatically enrolled in restricted "Teen Accounts" with parental controls and limited content.
Meta claims they've already enrolled 54 million teens globally, with 97% of 13-15-year-olds staying in these protected accounts.
For the kids trying to bypass these restrictions by claiming they were born during the Reagan administration - sorry, but AI is onto your tricks.

2/ Cursor's AI Support Bot Invents Policy, Chaos Ensues
A developer using Cursor (an AI code editor) noticed they kept getting logged out when switching between devices.
When they contacted support, an AI agent named "Sam" confidently explained this was due to a policy limiting users to "one device per subscription as a core security feature."
Plot twist: No such policy existed!
The AI completely made it up.
Users started canceling subscriptions in droves before Cursor clarified that Sam was an AI that had gone rogue with its creative writing skills.
The lesson?
Even AI tools selling AI tools aren't immune to AI hallucinations.
It's like getting food poisoning at a restaurant health inspector convention.

3/ ChatGPT Gets Smarter, Gen Z Gets Suspicious
OpenAI's new model (o3) scored 136 on a Mensa IQ test - outperforming 98% of humans.
Even on a custom offline test designed to avoid training data contamination, it scored 116, putting it in the top 15% of human intelligence.
Meanwhile, a survey found 25% of Gen Z already believes AI is conscious, and over half think it's just a matter of time.
About 70% say "please" and "thank you" to their AI, and some even use it as a therapist or romantic partner (!).
The gap between "really smart calculator" and "sentient being" remains vast, but don't tell that to the 6% of Gen Z apparently dating their chatbots.
Talk about a low-maintenance relationship - no birthday gifts required, just regular software updates.

Catch you tomorrow! ✌️
