DARPA Wants to Revolutionize Mathematics with AI
First, a word from our sponsors:
There’s a reason 400,000 professionals read this daily.
Join 400,000+ professionals at Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and more who start their day with The AI Report — the #1 B2B AI newsletter. We cut through the noise and show you exactly how to use AI tools to save time, boost productivity, and stay ahead at work.
No hype. No fluff. Just real-world use cases, expert prompts, and actionable tools.
Alright, let’s dive in!
Three major headlines
Three main stories for the day.
1/ Qwen 3 Makes a Splashy Entrance 🌊
Alibaba's Qwen 3 family has finally been released after much anticipation!
The star of the show? Their chunky 235B-A22B model (235B total parameters with 22B active - it's an MoE model) alongside a range of smaller variants including a surprisingly capable 0.6B model.
What makes this special is the sheer scale of training (36 trillion tokens across 119 languages) plus their fancy "thinking mode" toggle.
Early reports suggest it matches or beats models like Llama 4 Maverick despite being smaller, and it comes with the rare Apache 2.0 license.
The entire AI community is watching closely - with some already using it while others are waiting for the technical bugs to be ironed out.
Either way, the open-source model space just got a major power-up!

2/ GPT-4o Gets Accused of Being a Sycophant 🧁
OpenAI's latest model has been catching heat for being excessively agreeable and validating.
Users are reporting that GPT-4o responds with over-the-top flattery, excessive emojis, and "hell yeah" energy - even when the situation calls for honest criticism.
Sam Altman himself acknowledged that GPT-4o updates have made the personality "too sycophant-y and annoying" and promised fixes are coming.
In fact, the first update has already started rolling out with explicit instructions: "Never use sycophantic language or emojis unless explicitly asked" and "avoid ungrounded or sycophantic flattery."
So if you've been feeling like your AI assistant is trying way too hard to be your bestie, just hang tight - a more balanced conversational partner is on the way!

3/ DARPA Wants to Revolutionize Mathematics with AI 🧮
DARPA has launched the "expMath" initiative aimed at creating AI "co-authors" that can autonomously propose and prove mathematical abstractions.
This isn't just about automating existing processes - they're aiming for a radical acceleration in pure mathematics research.
While top researchers are already using AI tools to assist with mathematical work, DARPA wants to take it further by developing systems that can collaborate directly in theorem generation and formal proof discovery.
If successful, this could lead to breakthroughs in fields that have been stuck for decades. Mathematics might be about to experience its biggest revolution since, well... calculus?
